Jewellery from Found Objects - Sara Withers

Learn simple wirework and threading techniques to create quirky jewellery from found objects and beads. Incorporate sea glass, pebbles, broken china, buttons or other salvaged treasure.

The Course (2 days) Dates & availability

This is a great way to acquire some basic wirework techniques whilst making good use of found objects or hoarded collections. Over the 2 days you will learn how to transform your precious finds into pendants, brooches, bracelets and necklaces. The loops, coils and findings that you perfect can be used with beads for future projects. In addition, you may wish to apply resin to put images into bottle tops. Feel free to bring your own odds and ends. Single earrings or broken necklaces can be recycled and offered a new lease of life!

No experience is necessary, but some dexterity is useful as this can be quite close work.

Tutor: Sara Withers

Sara produces a range of exquisite jewellery, assembling her own hand crafted beads together with others collected from around the world. Her intricate work is sold at shops and galleries throughout Britain. She also exhibits at selected shows and music festivals.
Sara is the author of several books on the subject. Titles include 'Exotic Beads', 'Beautiful Beading', 'The Encyclopedia of Beading Techniques' and 'The Encyclopedia of Wire Jewellery Techniques'..

Materials

There is a basic materials charge of £15 per person. This covers wires, some general supplies such as resin and use of tools. A tempting selection of beads will be available for purchase if desired. Students are encouraged to bring with them any items of their own they wish to incorporate - although this is not essential.
Note: This materials charge is in addition to the course fee which includes tuition, lunch and refreshments.
