Precious Metal Clay Jewellery - Xuella Arnold

book coursePrecious metal clay (PMC) is a completely new way of working with metal. It consists of microscopic particles of silver dust held in a binder which can be moulded and sculpted just like clay. The beauty is that once dried out and fired, it fuses together to produce hallmark quality silver.

The workshop is suitable for both beginners and those with some jewellery or PMC experience.

The Course (Two days)

"I just want say how much my mother and I enjoyed the PMC course. What a wonderfully inspiring teacher Xuella is and such a lovely person. I am totally inspired to carry on with PMC and am looking into buying a kiln." J.R. (London)

Over the weekend students will be able to design and make their own unique pieces of silver jewellery such as pendants, earrings and charms. Various techniques will be covered including rolling, texturing and cutting the clay. On the first day students will learn how to make a silicone rubber mould which can be used with PMC to create earrings (matching!) or a pendant. Expert tuition will also cover stone setting, shaping and creating hollow forms. A small kiln will be available in the studio. Xuella will demonstrate how to fire your pieces and offer advice on further projects to continue at home.

Tutor: Xuella Arnold

Xuella has been designing and making jewellery for 20 years, in both traditionally made silver and in PMC. She sells her work at craft fairs and in galleries nationwide and is an experienced tutor.  In 2008 her book on PMC was published.

Materials

The cover charge of approximately £40 per person includes 16 grams PMC3 clay, PMC slip, use of tools and kiln firing fee. Additional materials will be available for purchase if desired. These include extra packs of PMC clay, a selection of semi-precious stones, silver chain, wire and fittings and silicone moulding material.
Please note: Students often find they need more than 16g of PMC clay over the 2 days to make several pieces. Materials fees are subject to change depending on the price of silver.

Please note: This materials charge is in addition to the 2-day course fee which includes tuition, lunch and refreshments.
