Stained Glass Summer School - Lilian Shaw

Introductory Course - for complete beginners
Intermediate Course - for those who have already completed the above or similar
5-day Summer School - for both beginners and those with experience

The Course (Five days)

An exciting opportunity to develop your skills and creativity. Students of all abilities are welcome - including complete beginners. Tuition will cover both copper foil and leaded light techniques although you may choose one or the other or both for your project(s).
Over the 5 days individuals can develop and pursue their own chosen projects. One to one tuition ensures plenty of assistance enabling students to tackle a more ambitious piece than may be possible on our 2-day course. This is a practical workshop using traditional methods and materials.

Tutor: Lilian Shaw

Lilian trained originally as a painter working in oils and pastels. Her passion for light and colour led her to pursue a career as a stained glass artist. She founded her own studio in 1986.
Lilian has many varied commissions to her name both in the UK and abroad. These include pieces for private clients, churches and the National Trust. Lilian is an experienced and enthusiastic tutor.

Materials

Materials can selected and purchased from stock. A good range of coloured glass will be available, copper foil and lead of different widths. The price varies depending upon your chosen project (panel size, colours, glass types etc). On the Summer School there is also a cover charge of £8 per person for basic materials such as flux, solder, patina, tallow, cement, whiting and use of tools.
If you have a particular project in mind, Lilian would be happy to discuss your design ideas prior to the course and will do her best to accommodate any specific materials requests.

Health & Safety

This workshop involves the handling and soldering of metals (specifically lead, tin and copper). It also requires the use of sharp materials, hot tools and chemicals. Protective goggles, gloves and dust masks will be provided.
Whilst every effort is made to keep the studio environment safe and well ventilated, if you are pregnant or suffer from asthma or dermatitis, for your own assurance we recommend you seek medical advice before booking this course.
