Fused Glass - Barbara Coulam

This 2-day workshop offers an exciting introduction to this amazing craft. Experiment with various materials and techniques to produce decorative glass items and samples. Potential projects include jewellery, light catchers, tiles, vessels and Christmas decorations.

The Course (Two days) Dates & availability

An introduction covers some of the history and theory of fused or 'kiln-formed' glass, explaining techniques such as fusing and laminating. A series of small 2D projects will allow students to sample both clear and coloured glass effects. Objects such as wire, beads and dry leaves can be sandwiched between layers of glass as 'inclusions'. Later on day one, there will be the chance to make some jewellery using dichroic glass. These items will be kiln-fired overnight and returned the following day.

On day two Barbara will talk about 3D projects and describe the processes involved in mould making, bending and slumping. Students can then build on their experience from day one and progress to make 3D objects of their own such as small dishes.

The work produced will be kiln fired at Barbara's studio after the course with finished pieces will be ready for collection (or despatch) approximately 3 weeks later. No prior experience of glass working is necessary. An experimental approach is encouraged!
