Kiln Formed Glass - Barbara Coulam

Kiln formed glass is currently enjoying a wonderful resurgence in popularity. This weekend workshop offers the perfect introduction to this intriguing art form. Students will be encouraged to experiment with various materials and techniques to produce decorative glass items of their choice. Potential projects include jewellery, tiles, vessels, light catchers and Christmas decorations.

The Course (Two days)

Day one covers some of the history and theory of kiln formed glass. It introduces students to techniques such as fusing and laminating. A series of small 2D projects will allow students to sample both clear and coloured glass effects. Objects such as wire, beads and dry leaves can be sandwiched between layers of glass as inclusions.

After firing

On day two Barbara will talk about 3D projects and describe the processes involved in mould making, bending and slumping. Students can then utilise their experience from day one and progress to make 3D objects of their own such as small bowls.

No prior experience of glass working is necessary.
