The
Course (Two days)
Over the 2 days you will produce your own collection of individual
tiles. These may be used as feature wall tiles (decors) set amidst
plain field tiles or can be framed as wall plaques or trivets.
Alternatively you may choose to create a design spanning a block
of several tiles to form a splash back for a sink, cooker or Aga.
Some techniques will involve decorating biscuit fired blanks.
Others will involve rolling your own clay blanks and then applying
pattern and form.

Materials
Both clay and biscuit fired tile blanks will be available. Students
will have access to a varied palette of rich, vibrant glazes.
These contain naturally occurring minerals such as iron, copper,
cobalt and manganese which are blended using original Victorian
oxide recipes. They can be applied to the tiles in several layers
to produce depth and lustrous effects.
There will be a basic cover charge to include tile blanks, clay,
glazes and the kiln firing fee. Additional tile materials may
be purchased if desired. You will also have the opportunity to
buy hand-made tiles (and seconds) from the Royce Wood range. Your
creations will be fired in the kiln and ready for collection approximately
3 weeks after the course. If you live further away, items can
be carefully packaged and posted for an additional fee.
