Willow Sculpture - Laura Bacon
This workshop offers the chance to explore and celebrate the natural qualities of willow under the expert guidance of artist, Laura Bacon. Students will be introduced to some basic techniques and materials enabling them to design and create willow structures of their own. This course encourages a free and experimental approach with guaranteed spectacular results!
The Course (Two days)
As an introduction, Laura will take students through her own portfolio explaining the properties of willow, different varieties, basic structures and interlacings. She will also give practical advice on living willow projects such as arches and seating.
Weather permitting, the course will take place in the gardens and woods at Godfrey Hole House. Cover is available in the studio areas if required.
Tutor: Laura Bacon
Laura is a practising willow sculptor specialising in curvaceous, contemporary forms for interiors and the landscape. Commissions include sculpture trails at Hebden Bridge and, more locally, the Wirksworth Festival. She often works on a grand scale, creating pieces large enough to enter, and building around existing features such as trees or dry stone walls.
Materials
Several types of willow will be available on the course. The price starts at £10 but varies depending on the size, variety and quantity used.
