Modern Calligraphy (1 day)

Learn the art of pointed pen & ink calligraphy from initial concepts to finishing flourishes. Develop your own distinctive lettering style with this modern free flowing approach.

Go with the flow creating basic strokes and shapes, guided step by step by professional calligrapher, Allie. Play with letter-forms, layout and font to develop projects of your own. Perfect for anyone organising a wedding/special event or wishing to add personalised touches to gifts.

Open to both beginners and those with experience.

The class starts with an introduction to ‘Faux Calligraphy’ – for the times when a dip ink pen cannot be used. This could be signage, chalkboards, or just doodling! The next step is to learn to hold the pen correctly and how to control the nib and ink. There will then be time to perfect your skills combining all the elements.

Tutor: Allie

Allie is a Nottingham based calligrapher and sign writer with a string of varied commissions to her name. Her company Polly & Me produced beautiful bespoke work for branding, product design and events. She now specialises in hand painted signage and lettering design. Allie has been offering calligraphy workshops for several years. We are delighted to welcome her to share her skills at Zantium Studios. Click here to view Allie’s own work.

Materials

Each student will receive a personalised pack to use on the course and take home if they wish to purchase. This includes a pointed pen, specialist ink, pencil and an A4 workbook.

This is in addition to the course fee

Lunch & Refreshments

A tasty light lunch is included in the course fee. Help yourself to drinks and biscuits throughout the day with homemade cake mid-afternoon. (Please let us know of any dietary requirements).

Arrival: Join us from 9.30am to settle in
Tuition: 10.00am – 4.30pm (with a break for lunch)
