Willow Animal Sculpture (2 days)

The Course

Let your imagination run wild! Join willow artist, Caroline Gregson, for this engaging workshop making creatures great and small. Willow is a fun and accessible medium which gives impressive results in a relatively short space of time.

Learn all about willow… how to grow it, prepare it and sculpt it to form 3 dimensional works of art. Caroline has perfected the technique of building entirely of willow without the need for a metal framework or wires.

Over 2 days you can to design and construct either one four-legged animal or a pair of bird sculptures. Foxes, pheasants, hares and hens; sheep, deer, cats and dogs all prove popular, although projects have also included a snail, peacock and even a unicorn! Abstract forms are equally possible if you prefer this approach.

A one-day workshop will be enough time for you to make a bird of some sort (a hen, heron, pheasant or similar.)

An introductory slide show takes place in the studio with the class may moving out into the garden as sculptures take shape. The house and studio back onto organically farmed land with views across fields to Carsington Water making this a lovely place to be.

Suitable for both beginners and those with some willow or sculpture experience.

“Thankyou for the fantastic Willow Course. You picked a great tutor and were extremely hospitable. It all made for a very enjoyable and memorable weekend. My creations have been sprayed with linseed and now I just have to decide where to put them in the garden! J.N. (Birmingham)
