Description

Explore the ancient art of Japanese Marbling (Suminagashi) to create stunning patterned papers. Then construct your own hardback book using traditional binding techniques. Quality materials, simple tools, beautiful results!

JAPANESE MARBLING (Morning):
Discover the secrets and magic of Suminagashi, producing your own collection of marbled papers. Experiment with classic black & white patterns or add colour for a more modern look. Originating from 12th century Japan, this exciting process uses water and Sumi ink on plain paper, transforming it into something eye-catching and unique.

JAPANESE BOOKBINDING (Afternoon):
This versatile method is perfect for creating handmade books and journals. You will learn the traditional technique of stab binding to form a distinctive sewn stitch spine. Select your cover from a tempting range of handmade Japanese Chiyogami papers. Include your own marbled sheets as end papers if you wish.

Friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Beginners and more experienced students welcome.
Note: This class can be booked along with Coptic Bookbinding on Sun 26th Apr 2026 as a 2-day course.
