Alison and Peter met at art college in London back in the last century. Their initial friendship led to romance, adventure and a Mosaic Studio in rural Derbyshire …
Founded in 1998
‘Zantium’ was founded in 1998 around the kitchen table and took off at Banks Mill Studios in Derby.
Commissions, teaching and a book contract kept them busy. Three years later a dream came true with the move to Godfrey Hole House on the edge of the Peak District. This lovely old farmhouse with purpose built studio extension makes the perfect setting for both work and family life.
Commissions
As professional artists, they specialise in creating MOSAIC & PAINTED MURALS and developing ideas with SCHOOLS & COMMUNITY GROUPS.
Over the years they have worked on various projects from the Channel Islands to the Hebrides.
Craft courses
Zantium Studios host a range of CRAFT COURSES throughout the year. Visiting tutors bring their own specialisms. Classes are small and friendly with delicious lunches and cakes provided.
Customers often return year on year for more creative pursuits – “the perfect combination of learning, doing and eating, being nourished all round”.
Holiday accommodation
Peter and Alison welcome guests to their holiday accommodation.
GODFREY HOLE COTTAGE provides a cosy countryside retreat on site (2 bedrooms).
THE COUNTING HOUSE makes a luxurious pad for 2 in the historic heart of Wirksworth (1 double ensuite).
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
PETER MASSEY
Peter graduated from London’s Royal College of Art in 1994. As a freelance illustrator he specialised in children’s publications and wildlife subjects. Clients included Ladybird Books and The Natural History Museum
He now produces mosaics and murals for Zantium and teaches Workshops at Zantium Studios
ALISON MASSEY
Alison studied Textile Design at Leeds University
She has worked as a designer in industry and lecturer in surface pattern
She now designs for Zantium and manages the Craft Courses programme at Zantium Studios
