Create a beautiful satchel in the finest British leather with solid brass/chrome fittings. Using traditional tools, follow the sequence of processes to make your own hand-stitched bag. Customise, if you wish, through colour choices and embossing.
This 2-day course covers a range of leatherworking techniques including pattern cutting, stitching, punching, riveting, edge finishing, dyeing and mark making. Original ideas and creativity are encouraged in this friendly studio class. Open to beginners or those with experience.

Task Breakdown:
Cut pattern templates, select leather, cut straps, billet and panel pieces. Punch ends and buckle slots, bevel and dye edges. Skive buckle end turnover, loops and strap end. Fit buckle and punch stitch and rivet holes. Rivet and stitch to panel side pieces. Glue strap loops, and stitch, mark stitch lines and punch stitch holes on panel pieces, stitch up satchel. Mark up lines for pippin holes on billet, punch pippins, screw in stud, initial if required. Wax finish and assemble. Punch initials or name on label if desired.

Catherine trained as a boot and shoemaker. She worked for various companies in London for 12 years before taking on a 2 year residency at The Royal Armouries, Leeds. This led to the design and production of her first collection and the launch of her own business, C E Leathergoods in 1998. Catherine is a highly skilled craftsperson and an experienced teacher.

Materials
We offer a choice of high quality British, vegetable-tanned leather in a variety of colours and finishes. Also threads, leather dye and fittings in brass or chrome. In time, buckles will dull to a beautiful patina whilst the leather will polish and develop a deep lustre.
