Stained Glass – Summer School (5 days)

Enjoy a week immersed in colour and light! Under Lilian’s expert guidance, you will design and complete a stained glass project of your choice. All welcome – from complete beginners to those with experience.

An exciting opportunity to develop your skills and creativity. This course covers both copper foil and leaded light techniques, although you may choose to focus on one or other. A range of projects will be available. Any ideas and materials requests can be discussed with Lilian prior to the course. One to one tuition ensures plenty of practical support.

Tutor: Lilian Shaw

Originally working in oils and pastels, Lilian went on to pursue a career as a stained glass artist. She founded her own studio in 1986 and has many varied commissions to her name. These include pieces for private clients, churches and the National Trust. Lilian is an experienced and conscientious tutor with a genuine passion for her craft.

Materials

An attractive range of coloured glass will be available for purchase. The price varies depending upon your chosen project (panel size, colours, glass types etc). There is also a £10 cover charge for basic supplies (flux, tallow, cement, whiting) and use of all tools.

Materials fee: typically around £40-£50 for a panel made over the 5 days (payable to the tutor at the end)

Health & Safety: This workshop involves the handling and soldering of metals (lead, tin & copper). It also requires the use of sharp materials, hot tools and chemicals. Protective goggles, gloves and dust masks will be provided. Whilst every effort is made to keep the studio environment safe and well ventilated, if you are pregnant/breastfeeding or suffer from asthma or dermatitis, you should seek medical advice before booking this course.

Lunch & Refreshments

A tasty light lunch is included in the course fee. Help yourself to drinks and biscuits throughout the day with homemade cake mid-afternoon. (Please let us know of any dietary requirements).

Arrival: Join us from 9.30am to settle in
Tuition: 10.00am – 5.00pm (with a break for lunch)*

*Note: Wednesday afternoon is untutored time, leaving you free to explore the local area or continue working in the studio if you wish. A packed lunch will be provided on this day to eat in or take away.
