Modern Calligraphy (1 day)

Description

Learn the art of pointed pen & ink calligraphy from initial concepts to finishing flourishes. Develop your own distinctive lettering style with this fresh, free flowing approach.

Modern calligraphy is more flexible, creative and expressive than its traditional counterpart. Go with the flow forming basic strokes and shapes, guided step by step by professional calligrapher, Kayleigh. Play with letter-forms, layout and font to develop projects of your own. Perfect for anyone organising a wedding/special event or wishing to add personalised touches to gifts.

Open to both beginners and those with experience; right-handers and left-handers. 

The class starts with an introduction to ‘Faux Calligraphy’ – for the times when a dip ink pen cannot be used. This could be signage, chalkboards, or just doodling! The next step is to learn to hold the pen correctly and how to control the nib and ink. There will then be time to perfect your skills combining all the elements.

Later you will have the chance to experiment with different inks, papers and wax seals.

Kayleigh is a professional calligrapher based in Nottingham. She specialises in modern calligraphy styles and hand painted signage. Materials

Each student will receive a personalised pack to use on the course and take home if they wish to purchase. This includes a pointed pen, specialist ink, pencil and an A4 workbook.
Materials fee: £20 (optional)
This is in addition to the course fee

Lunch & Refreshments

A tasty light lunch is included in the course fee. Help yourself to drinks and biscuits throughout the day with homemade cake mid-afternoon. (Please let us know of any dietary requirements).

Timing

Arrival: Join us from 9.30am to settle in
Tuition: 10.00am – 4.30pm (with a break for lunch)
