Silver Clay Jewellery with Sea Glass (1 day)

Description

Smoothed by waves and wind, frosted and translucent, Sea Glass has a beautiful quality of its own. Combine beachcombed glass treasure with Silver Clay to create your own unique hand-crafted jewellery. 

Silver clay is an amazing medium which can be sculpted by hand or shaped in tiny moulds, then heat-fired to form solid silver. Bring along your own beach finds or comb through ours to select the perfect ‘jewel’. You will learn how to carefully drill sea glass to incorporate into your designs.

Perfect for beginners or those with experience, you will complete several pieces of jewellery to take home. Projects include: silver bangle with charms, necklace with pendant/charms, pair of earrings (matching or individual).

A choice of moulds will be provided to create elements using Silver Art Clay (Precious Metal Clay). This malleable material consists of fine silver particles held in an organic binder. On firing, it fuses together to produce solid hallmark quality silver.

This is a rewarding way of working with metal without the need for many traditional silversmithing tools. Various processes will be covered:

• Roll out clay & add texture/pattern
• Cut shapes & mould forms
• Sand, drill & prepare your piece for firing
• Fire, polish & add patinas
• Drill sea glass & combine with silver elements

Louise is an award winning jewellery designer based in Leicestershire. She is a qualified Senior Tutor, holding the Art Clay Higher Diploma. She had been teaching for many years and loves sharing her skills with others.

Materials fee: From £25 per person. This £25 includes 7 grams of Silver Clay, sea glass, chain, jumping and bezel wire for one wrapped stone. Also use of all tools and firing.
Plus optional extras: £10 for bangle wire. £14 for additional 5 grams of Sliver Clay. £2.50 for extra bezel wire.
The exact price will be determined by the size and number of items you make.
The materials fee is in addition to the course fee.

Health & Safety: This workshop involves the use of heat and some sharp tools. Protective equipment will be provided as necessary and clear safety briefings given. The materials are non-toxic.
